Hagerstown, MD: At 6:00 pm on Tuesday December 5th the warrant served at the property at 4040 Mills Road, Sharpsburg MD was completed. The owner is free to return to her property. Of the horses impounded 22 horses remain on the property at this time. The horses are still under the oversight of the Humane Society of Washington County.
The final count was 74 live horses were located on the property. In addition, there were 5 skeletal remains, 3 carcasses buried in a field, 1 dead foal and one dead yearling. One horse died in transit to veterinary care. No horses have been euthanized.
Due to the extensive medical needs-now and in the future-and the long term rehabilitation needs that will be necessary we are establishing the Sharpsburg Horse Rescue Medical and Rehabilitation Fund. Contributions are to be sent to the Humane Society of Washington County, Attention: The Sharpsburg Horse Rescue Medical and Rehabilitation Fund, 13011 Maugansville Road, Hagerstown MD 21740.
The results of this investigation are now being compiled. The finished report will be sent to the State’s Attorney’s office as soon as possible. Also, if anyone has information they feel could be pertinent to this investigation please contact the Humane Society of Washington County.
“We have received tremendous support from the public, both local and nationally,” Said Paul Miller, executive director of the Humane Society of Washington County. He added, “We are asking the tens of thousands of individuals who have expressed a willingness to help to send us at least one dollar -$1.00- to establish a foundation for the future expenses we are certain to incur for the care of these rescued horses”
For those wishing to contribute items to this rescue effort the following are needed and can be brought to the offices of the HSWC 13011 Maugansville Road, Hagerstown MD 21740: round pen panels, sorting gates, halters, leads, blankets and horse feed tubs of any size.
To donate to Days End Farm Horse Rescue, you may drop items off at the HSWC or you may contact them directly at 301 854-5037. Items they are in need of are: daily wormer, and regular monthly wormers such as Panacure, Strongid, Ivermectin or ComboCare. The also need breakaway halters, lead ropes, small waterproof blankets, disposable laytex gloves and Betadine solution and Betadine scrub, bag pine shavings.
