16th Annual LuHowl

Updated: Apr 12, 2022

The Humane Society of Washington County (HSWC) will host the 16th Annual LuHowl fundraising auction on Saturday, June 12th from 5 pm to 9 pm at Historic Milestone Farm in Williamsport, MD. This year’s top sponsor is Sheehy Subaru of Hagerstown.

During the Hawaiian-themed evening, attendees can bid on auction items donated by individuals and businesses throughout the community, including outdoor adventure experiences, salon and beauty packages, signed sports memorabilia, jewelry, and more. In addition to enjoying heavy hors d’oeuvres, drinks, music and dancing, guests are also welcome to tour a private car museum owned by Don Bowman.

“After hosting this event virtually last year, we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate our 16th Annual LuHowl in person with our valued supporters,” said Anna Somers, HSWC’s Events and Corporate Partnership Manager. “It’s going to be a night to remember and we’re so grateful to Don and Mary Bowman for welcoming us for this special event once again.”

This year’s LuHowl has an exciting twist – the event will be held in Don and Mary Bowman’s newly renovated, historic stone barn.

“Both its grandeur and its fine details are stunning,” said Somers of the barn. “We’re thrilled for guests to experience LuHowl in such a beautiful space.”

The 8th Annual Jone Bowman Champ Award will also be presented at the event. This year’s award is being presented to Don and Marlyss “Mar” Warner. Don and Mar have actively volunteered at HSWC as a couple since 2015, and Mar volunteered on her own for several years prior. Both are involved in many facets of the shelter’s work. They collect donation canisters from around the community and volunteer at adoption and fundraising events. Don regularly assists Canine Health & Behavior staff with behavioral assessments, enrichment, and dog walking. The couple has even ventured to the shelter at odd hours to help receive dogs from transfers and get the animals settled at HSWC. During the COVID-19 lockdown, they continued to help from afar by taking dogs on afternoon getaways and assisting with social media administrative duties. Don and Mar are always ready to say “yes” to helping in any way they can.

LuHowl tickets are $50 and must be purchased in advance of the event. They can be purchased online at hswcmd.org or at the shelter on or before June 10. All proceeds from the event benefit spay/neuter programs for animals at HSWC.

In addition to the in-person LuHowl fundraiser, HSWC will host several virtual raffles on its Facebook page throughout the month of June. Individuals will be able to donate for a chance to win items like a Fire Pit and S’mores Supplies, a “Backyard Brew Tour” with gifts cards to local breweries, and more. Please visit www.facebook.com/hswcmd throughout June to participate.
