Calling All Artists!

Updated: Apr 12, 2022

The Humane Society of Washington County (HSWC) will celebrate its 100th anniversary in November 2021. To honor this milestone, HSWC is introducing an opportunity for local artists to leave their mark on history. Together with Howard’s Art and Frames, the contest’s sponsor, HSWC is seeking design submissions for the twelve life-size fiberglass dog and cat statues that will be featured throughout the shelter’s centennial celebration.

Interested artists can apply for a chance to paint one of the statues by visiting www.hswcmd.org/centennial-paws-for-a-cause-statue-design-contest. The original deadline has been extended, and applications are due by June 30 to Anna Somers at asomers@hswcmd.org or via drop-off at the shelter.

“We couldn’t be more excited for this opportunity to work with local artists to celebrate HSWC’s 100th year,” said Anna Somers, Events and Corporate Partnership Manager. “There are so many talented artists in the Washington County community, and we can’t wait to see what creative ideas they come up with.”

Winning artists will be notified in early July. Each winning artist will receive a $100 Howard’s Art and Frames gift card to help cover the cost of their supplies.

Completed statues will be displayed at local businesses for several weeks this fall, and then auctioned off at HSWC’s 100th Anniversary Gala in November.
