Reward Offered for Information on Cats who Suffered and Died from Gunshot Wounds

The Humane Society of Washington County (HSWC) is offering up to a $1,000 reward for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the fatal shooting of two cats in Clear Spring.

Case: On December 29th, a citizen residing in the area of National Pike and St. Paul Road brought in an injured cat to HSWC. After being examined by our shelter veterinarian, it was determined that the cat had been shot. His injuries were too severe and he had to be euthanized. An owner has been identified.

On January 3rd, our Field Services Department responded to the same area for reports of a second cat that had possibly been shot. Upon arrival, officers located a cat who was gravely injured. After a thorough exam, our veterinarian determined her injuries were too severe and she was euthanized. She had been shot two times, causing extensive injury.

Both animals unnecessarily suffered from this heinous act. Our officers have been interviewing residents in the area in an attempt to find the perpetrator of this crime. They now need your help.

Deliberate acts of cruelty like this are particularly disturbing and should not be tolerated in any community. We urge the public to share any related information that may help identify the suspect. Information/tips should be directed to HSWC Field Services at 301-733-2060, extension 203.
